The Citizens Committee for New York City Newsletter: We're All In for New York City

Are You All In For NYC?

Our 2022 All In Neighborhood Grant application is now open and you can be a part of our Million Dollar Movement.

Today, our grantmaking focuses on supporting projects that improve neighborhood life, strengthen local leadership, and scale community partnerships. We invest in neighborhood-led efforts to build a NYC that benefits all, especially in times of crises. Grassroots leaders know and have what it takes to make change to boost civic engagement, neighborhood wealth, and community health. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis, but we strongly encourage you to apply early!

Interlocking Roots, a QT*BIPoC (queer, trans, black, indigenous, and people of color) network of farmers, foodies and earth stewards, is developing a podcast to amplify stories about food and land work, and to build collective power.

Interlocking Roots centers food and earthwork as decolonization tools to combat isolation, trauma, and accountability within its community and work space through workshops and community gatherings. During the pandemic, the group distributed herbal medicinal care packages to the African American community and coordinated a Black-only healing space in a garden.

Rebuilding NYC Together Again

From getting back on the subway, to being around one another again for the holidays, Citizens Committee for New York City, CEO Dr. Rahsaan Harris and his wife Elizabeth come together to kick-off Season two of the CitizensNYC: LIVE Couples in Conversations podcast. The couple talks about the value of fellowship, how New Yorkers are continuing to make adjustments as the city gets a bit closer to normalcy, and their hope for the city as new leadership will soon assume office at highest city and state levels.

CitizensNYC: LIVE Rethink & Rebuild

What is community health? It’s education. It’s access to food. It’s mental health. Community wealth. Civic engagement. It’s holistic, it’s about all of us and each of us. It’s our aim - for NYC to be in good health and have quality of life.

In case you missed it, check out our rebroadcast of our Ideas Summit: All in for Community Health. At CitizensNYC we continue to bring together local business, grassroots community leaders, academics, elected officials, strategists, and community residents, working toward the public good of New York City.

How local leaders are getting funding to help their communities with CitizensNYC and The Showing Hearts Foundation

While New York City has built and funded resources for our neighbors that need assistance, for many people it’s still not enough. As a result, we often see non-profits, groups of like minded volunteers, or simply friendly neighbors fill in the gaps where city, state, or federal help is lacking. And groups like CitizensNYC aim to do just that - fill in the gaps. They empower community leaders who are already on the front lines of change in their own neighborhoods to do more.

About Citizens Committee for New York City

CitizensNYC’s mission is to help New Yorkers - especially those in low-income areas - come together and improve the quality of life in their neighborhoods. Residents are uniquely situated to define and act on the issues affecting their communities. When provided with modest support, neighborhood and school groups can effectively mobilize with the assistance of grants, skills-building workshops, and project planning assistance. In 2020, we provided 402 projects with nearly $1.2M in direct cash grants, impacting more than 87,685 residents in 122 neighborhoods across all five boroughs. Since 1975, we have promoted the spirit of volunteerism, local engagement, and social justice that drives our work. Go to citizensnyc.org to learn more.
